‚ÄčExpanding Light Rail - Alum Rock to Eastridge

The expansion of VTA light rail service from Alum Rock to the Eastridge Transit Center is moving ahead and here’s your opportunity to find out more about it.  A community meeting will be held Thursday, June 14 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Overfelt High School’s Multi-Purpose Room (Building F, Room 5F), 1835 Cunningham Avenue, San Jose.  (This location is served by VTA bus lines 22, 70, 77.)
Light rail will be extended roughly three miles along Capitol Expressway from the Alum Rock Station to the Eastridge Transit Center, providing a regional connection to BART. (From the Alum Rock station, passengers can continue on light rail directly to the newly built Milpitas BART station, when BART Silicon Valley service begins.)
This light rail project design has been updated. It now includes elevated tracks along Capitol Expressway, an elevated station at Story Road, and a ground-level station at Eastridge Transit Center. This design is safer and will allow light rail service to travel at faster speeds avoiding vehicle traffic intersections.
Updates to the design and engineering require VTA staff to develop a second Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (Draft SEIR-2). VTA is proposing to focus the report primarily on traffic impacts and changes in noise and vibration, and how the project affects low income and minority populations. The June 14 meeting will begin with a formal presentation at 6:00 p.m. followed by an open house where staff will be available to address questions. Written comments and questions on the scope and content of the Draft SEIR-2 will be accepted at the meeting, or by mail or email until June 28. Mail questions or comments to: VTA Environmental Programs, 3331 N. First Street, B-2, San Jose, CA  95134; or email:
