Opportunities for Small Businesses Expand to County

The Valley Transportation Authority is sharing its expertise in highlighting opportunities in the transportation industry for small businesses on a regional scale.
VTA and Santa Clara County are partners in a new Regional Business Diversity Program, in an effort to include more local firms in the contracting process in Santa Clara County.
The Valley Transportation Authority recently expanded its own Business Diversity program which helps local firms learn about upcoming contracting opportunities and how to better navigate the contracting process. In addition to Minority owned businesses and Women owned businesses, VTA’s program now includes LGBT-owned and Disabled Veteran-owned businesses.
Last fall, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors approved a policy to reach out to these small businesses to help them “participate equitably in County contracting opportunities.” The collaboration with VTA will offer a “one-stop-shop” for these participating businesses to gain access to contracting opportunities with VTA and the County. VTA will provide a one-stop certification for Diverse Business Enterprises and lead the outreach and marketing efforts to firms.
The kickoff for this collaboration will be a “Business Connect” event, in which small businesses can network with larger firms in need of subcontractors. VTA and Santa Clara County will host the event Thursday, May 11th from 8:30 am to noon at 1555 Berger Drive in the County Auditorium.
