State Route 85 Transit Guideway Study Community Workshops This November 2017

|

VTA has begun work on a new study that will evaluate potential transit improvements on State Route (SR) 85 including light rail, bus rapid transit and other relevant technologies.

The study is one of a suite of efforts, approved by voters with the passing of the Measure B sales tax last November, to reduce traffic congestion and noise within this corridor. It’s projected that $350 million will be available for these improvements, which will be collected over the next 30 years.

The study covers the entire length of SR 85, and will analyze whether there is enough physical space and funding to build several potential improvements. It will also evaluate the construction costs, operating costs, and projected ridership of those alternatives.

Before potential projects are selected to be further analyzed, VTA is studying how people travel along the corridor using data collected from mobile phones and employers along SR 85.  While that data will tell us where people are going, it doesn't tell us whether they are likely to use transit in this corridor.

That's where we need your help.  Please take a short survey about how you currently travel and would be willing to travel on SR 85.

Survey responses will be presented to the SR 85 Policy Advisory Board (PAB) in December.  The PAB, which consists of council members from the cities along SR 85, will ultimately decide which potential projects are studied.

VTA will be discussing the study and asking for your input at three upcoming community workshops that are scheduled for November 2017.  We want to better understand what you value and incorporate that feedback into the planning process early because early community input produces better outcomes.
