Take part in the third annual Viva CalleSJ on Sunday, September 17 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. and enjoy miles of safe car-free, open streets. This family-friendly event is free, so join in on the fun and celebrate by exploring some of San Jose’s most iconic neighborhoods for the day.
This year’s route runs from Lake Cunningham Park in East San Jose, along White Road to Alum Rock, downtown to third Street, ending in Japantown at 7th and Jackson Streets. There is no formal beginning or end of the line, so feel free to start anywhere on the route and go as far as you would like. You can find five different activity hubs along the route that will feature entertainment, food and music.
VTA staff will also be there, so make sure to swing by VTA’s information booths in Japantown and near the Mexican Heritage Plaza to say “Hi” and pick up some safety tips and giveaways at our tables. You can also take a break from the heat and jump on board one of our big blue buses that will be on display in our new bus rapid transit lane on Alum Rock. While onboard, practice loading and unloading your bike to see how easy it is.
Due to Viva CalleSJ, several of VTA’s buslines are being rerouted for the event to accommodate the closed streets. Plan ahead and check our reroute notifications for the best way to get to the event.
