Bus and Light Rail - Policies

Securement

Mobility devices must be secured every time when used upon a VTA bus. Bus operators are responsible for ensuring that mobility devices are secured properly, even if a passenger or a passenger's attendant secures their own device. Securment Brochure (Securement Brochure Text Version)

priority seat inside the busPriority Seating

Seats near the front door of all VTA Buses and Light Rail vehicles are designated for seniors and persons with disabilities. Passengers who want to use the priority seating area but find that it is occupied may advise the driver. The Operator shall request, but not require, that passengers make the priority seats available to seniors and passengers with disabilities.

Operator Assistance

Coach Operators will assist passengers with disabilities and seniors boarding or exiting buses, using the wheelchair lift and/or securing their mobility devices as necessary or upon request.

The Operator will deploy the lift or ramp on request. Anyone may request the use of the lift or ramp. The Operator shall kneel the coach, if so equipped, on request.

Service Animals

The Operator shall allow service animals and service-animals-in-training to ride on the coach. The customer’s identification of the animal as a service animal is sufficient. The service animal must remain under the full control of the customer.
