Program Overview - Travel

VTA Service Area

VTA's Bus and light rail service provides transportation within several cities connecting various destinations throughout Santa Clara County from bus stops, light rail stations, and transit centers.

Fares

VTA fares must be paid upon boarding buses or at Ticket Vending Machines at light rail stations. Passes may be purchased at locations throughout Santa Clara County or they may be purchased on-line.

Discounted Fares

Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Card

The Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount Card is issued to both persons with disabilities and senior citizens 65 and older.  The card, when shown to the operator, entitles the bearer to ride for the appropriate Senior/Disabled fare. You have the choice of buying a monthly sticker or paying the daily discounted fare.

About VTA’s $25.00 Senior/Disabled Monthly Sticker

You must have a valid Regional Transit Connection (RTC) Discount Card in order to use the sticker.

Monthly stickers can be purchased in person at either of VTA’s two customer service centers, some Safeways, Longs Drugs and other outlets throughout Santa Clara County. For help finding a nearby location contact VTA at (408) 321-2300, Hearing impaired TTY (408) 321-2330

Other Ways to get a Discounted Fare

If you do not have an RTC Card you can still get discounted fare. Just present one of the following: Medicare Card, DMV License Plate Registration or DMV Disabled Parking Placard printout, a valid card from another transit provider or proof of age (65 and older).

Routes, Maps, and Schedules

All printed route schedules include corresponding route maps and route service times. Schedule maps are displayed at transit centers and light rail platforms.

Mobility Options Travel Training

VTA’s Mobility Options Program offers FREE one-on-one or group travel training to persons with disabilities and older adults. This training helps participants learn how to use fixed route bus and light rail service safely and confidently. Interested individuals with physical, cognitive, and visual disabilities and older adults who wish to gain mobility independence through public transportation should check out VTA’s Mobility Options Program.
