Alum Rock Fish Passage

Overview

Mitigation activities that enhance access for the steelhead trout population in the area along the Upper Penitencia Creek near the Youth Science Institute in San Jose’s Alum Rock Park are completed. The project scope involved construction crews including engineers, archeologists and biologists, working on removal of a fish barrier, expansion of a floodplain, erosion repair and removal of non-native vegetation. The majority of construction lasted through October 2012 and was followed by the replanting of native plants. VTA will be monitoring the area for a decade to ensure that its mitigation effort continues to be effective.
