VTA is currently in the process of station area planning, environmental clearance, engineering work, securing funding and real estate activities.

• November 2008: Citizens of Santa Clara County approved a 1/8^th cent sales tax by 66.78% of the vote for operations and maintenance of BART
• January 2009: New Starts Candidate Project Funding Plan to VTA Board of Directors
• February 2009: Complete 65% Engineering
• April/May 2009: Draft federal environmental document (EIS) public review and comment
• Fall 2009: Enter federal New Starts process
• Spring 2010: Final EIS circulate
• June 2010: Federal environmental approval of project (Record of Decision)
• Summer 2010: Final Design, Real Estate Relocation Plan
• Late 2012: Begin Construction 
• Late 2016-2017 System Testing
• 2018: Passenger Service
