Every Time you Ride with Us...
Ride Safely by Securing your Mobility Device onboard VTA Buses
To help ensure the safety of our passengers, VTA now utilizes several methods to secure mobility devices*on our buses. VTA Bus Operators are trained to help secure mobility devices and can answer any questions.
Each time you ride, an operator will offer to assist you. For your safety, we strongly encourage you to ride with your mobility device secured.
In the coming months, all VTA buses will be further enhanced with new standarized securement equipment. Our goal is that all passengers with mobility devices will ride with their devices secured while traveling on VTA buses.
If you have any questions about securing your device, or about VTA Policies and Procedures, please ask an operator or contact VTA Customer Service.
How to Secure Your Mobility Device:
Please move your mobility device into the proper forward facing direction and shut off the power. The operator will assist you by:
Using Tethers, Belts, Hooks or Clips
1. Please follow the operator's instructions.
2. Using the securement method available, the operator will use tethers (provided free of charge by VTA), belts, hooks or clips to secure the frame of your mobility device to the bus.
3. An optional, adjustable lap/shoulder belt is also available for your convenience and comfort.
4. Set your brake. Relax, and enjoy your ride.
5. To exit, wait for the operator to stop the bus. The operator will release the securement equipment from your mobility device.
OR
Using Wheel Clamps
1. Lift the folding seat and locate the wheel-securing clamp.
2. Back your mobility device into the securing clamp until the spring-loaded clamp closes around the wheel. Shut off the power.
3. If the wheel on your device does not fit in the securing clamp, the operator will assist you using the adjustable belts and equipment described in the center panel.
4. Set your brake. Relax, and enjoy your ride.
5. To exit, wait for the operator to stop the bus and release the securement equipment from your device.
VTA's mobility device lifts and securement equipment comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, which means that they can:
- Lift up to 600 pounds
- Accommodate mobility devices measuring up to 30 inches wide by 48 inches long (as measured at a level two inches above the ground).
If you are unable to board due to capacity issues, you may be asked to wait for the next bus. Please ask the operator for assistance.
If the wait for the next bus is expected to exceed 30 minutes, the operator will request a field supervisor to assist you.
