Combining state-of-the-art technology and faster service, Rapid 522 keeps you moving with frequent and more direct service between Palo Alto and East San Jose.

Service Features

Bus Signal Priority - As a bus approaches many intersections, sensors on the bus communicate with traffic signals to allow buses to move through as quickly as possible.

No Standing Still – Rapid 522 runs on a 15-minute schedule most of the day. Unlike other VTA Buses, Rapid 522 travels as fast as traffic and signals allow. Buses will not sit idle at bus stops when ahead of published schedules.

Next Stop, Your Stop – Rapid 522 makes only 30 stops between Palo Alto and San Jose  (that’s almost 75% fewer than VTA’s Local Line 22 service), getting you to your stop in less time!

Service All Day Long – Rapid 522 runs all day, 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturdays.

Rapid 522 does not operate on Sundays and late evenings. Local Line 22 operates 24-hours a day, seven days a week between Palo Alto and Eastridge.

All Low-Floor Fleet – Rapid 522 buses are all low-floor, allowing for quick passenger boarding and exiting.

Queue-Jump Lanes – Special lanes allow   Rapid 522 buses to bypass traffic at congested intersections, making use of exclusive right-turn lanes and a “receiving” lane across the intersection. Initial lanes are located at the Page Mill and Arastradero intersections in Palo Alto.
