Happy Earth Day!
The first Earth Day was announced in 1970 as a call to action. Over forty years later, Earth Day, April 22, continues to inspire and mobilize volunteers worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to the environment.

Earth Day Pledge
Did you know that car travel is the largest source of carbon emissions in the Bay Area?
You can make a difference by taking the VTA Earth Day Pledge to walk, bike, or ride transit on Friday, April 22!
All entries will be entered into a raffle to receive a Clipper card preloaded with a VTA monthly pass! Winners will also be featured in VTA publications such as My VTA and Take-One.
Earth Day Essay Contest
The contest is open to all students ages 14-17 who are currently enrolled in public, private and home schools in Santa Clara County. Essays must be submitted by Friday, April 29, 2011. Click here for submission details.
The winner will receive a Summer Blast Pass which includes unlimited rides on VTA buses and trains from June to August 2011 and special discount offers from VTA partners. The winner will also receive special recognition from VTA’s Board of Directors and be featured in VTA publications such as the My VTA page and Take-One.
Drive Less Challenge
The Drive Less Challenge is a fun way for you to try environmentally friendly alternatives to driving. The challenge takes place over two weeks from April 22 to May 5, 2011. Participants can form teams and use the game-like trip log, share stories, and compete for prizes from local businesses.
