  Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can an individual purchase Eco Pass?

A. Only residential communities can purchase Eco Pass.  Communities enter into an agreement with VTA to provide Eco Pass to their residents.

Q. Can we purchase Residential Eco Passes only for residents who are already regular transit users?

A. Residential communities must buy one pass for every resident at a given community, apartment, condominium, townhouse, or home in a Neighborhood Association. The deeply-discounted prices are structured to offer communities a cost-effective way to provide transit passes as an added amenity.

Q. Does Residential Eco Pass cover VTA Express Buses?

A. Yes, Eco Pass covers all VTA Buses, including the 12 VTA Express Lines which provide fast, direct transportation to major Silicon Valley employment centers.

Q. Does Residential Eco Pass include Dumbarton, Highway 17 Express and Monterey-San Jose Express Line 55?

A: Dumbarton, Highway 17 Express and Monterey-San Jose Express Line 55 is available as an additional service option. Residential communities interested in providing this option to their residents must purchase one pass for every resident in their community.

Q. Is Caltrain service included in Residential Eco Pass?

A: Caltrain is not available at this time.

Q. What happens when residents move in and out of the residential community?

A: Simply return the departing resident's pass. We'll send you one new pass for each one returned.

A residential community can also purchase additional passes as new residents arrive. The per-resident rate will be prorated so you'll only pay for the number of months that new residents will be using the passes.

Q. What types of residential communities may participate?

A: Any residential community with 25 units or more that is defined by a geographical boundary, such as an apartment building or condominium complex, may join Residential Eco Pass. Every person five years of age or older residing within the residential community is required to participate.
