Chuck Reed VTA Board Member
San José Mayor Chuck Reed serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 1 (City of San José), having done so since 2007. He also serves on VTA’s Administration and Finance Committee and as the Board of Directors liaison to VTA’s Committee for Transit Accessibility.
Member Reed is the Mayor of the City of San José. Prior to his election to mayor in 2006, he served on the San José City Council representing Council District 4 (Berryessa, Alviso, and North San José). He was elected to the City Council in 2000 and again in 2004.
His prior public service includes many years on the San José Planning Commission. He has historically been engaged in a variety of community service activities and actively supports many local organizations.
Member Reed was born and raised in the small farming town of Garden City, Kansas. He competed for and won an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, where he graduated first in military order of merit and received a degree in International Affairs. He later received a Masters Degree in Public Affairs from Princeton University and a law degree from Stanford University. Member Reed began his career as an attorney in 1978. As an attorney, he specialized in environmental, employment, land use and real estate law, and commercial litigation.
