Rose Herrera

San José City Council Member Rose Herrera serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 1 (City of San José), having been appointed in 2009.   She is also a member of VTA’s Congestion Management Program and Planning Committee, Audit Committee, and Ad Hoc Financial Recovery Committee.   She also serves on the Downtown/East Valley Policy Advisory Board and on the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Board.

Member Herrera serves on the San José City Council representing Council District 8 (Evergreen).  She was first elected to the San José City Council in 2008.

Prior public and civic service includes with the County Human Relations Commission, where she focused on programs for at-risk Hispanic youth specifically dealing with gang intervention and prevention.  She also organized community task forces as part of the Si Se Puede Project.  Member Herrera founded Involved Evergreen, a grass-roots organization formed to bring the Evergreen community together in support of the Evergreen Village Square as a viable place for residents to meet, shop, and share a sense of community.  She has served on or is a member of the Delinquency Prevention Commission, the California Association of Human Rights Organizations, and the Symphony San Jose Board of Directors.  She also founded the Norwood Creek Elementary School PTA.

Member Herrera is a long-time resident of Santa Clara County, having lived in San José for over 30 years.  She earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Santa Clara University following her service in the United States Air Force, where she was in the Air Force’s Security and Intelligence Service.  She founded Cinnamon Software, a software manufacturing company, and served as its CEO for the 10 years prior to her election to the San José City Council.  Prior to that, she held positions in worldwide software sales and consulting services for other high-tech companies and provided consulting services to a Silicon Valley start-up company specializing in developing products utilizing wireless area broadband.
