Chris Moylan VTA Board Member
Sunnyvale Vice Mayor Chris Moylan serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 2 (the North County cities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Santa Clara, and Sunnyvale), having been appointed in 2010. He also serves on VTA’s Congestion Management Program and Planning Committee. He previously served as an alternate member of the Board during 2008-2009, which also entailed serving as an alternate member on VTA’s Administration and Finance, Congestion Management Program and Planning, and Transit Planning and Operations committees. He previously served on VTA’s Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) representing the City of Sunnyvale from 2006-2009, and served two terms as that committee’s chairperson.
Member Moylan is a member of the Sunnyvale City Council, having been elected in 2005 and again in 2009. For 2010, he is serving as Sunnyvale’s vice mayor, as he did for 2009. Prior to that, he served for five years on the Sunnyvale Planning Commission.
His previous civic service includes on the 1996 Measure B Citizens’ Watchdog Committee (inaugural vice chair). Prior to that, he was selected in 1991 for the Local Transportation Authority Citizens’ Oversight Committee (inaugural Chair) and was appointed to the Santa Clara County Transportation Commission (1991-1994), where he served as the final chairperson before the group’s mission was modified.
Member Moylan grew up in Pleasantville, New York. He earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1979, and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford University in 1984. He is currently the Senior Scientist at SuperBulbs, a Redwood City company developing energy-efficient lighting technologies. He previously was a teaching faculty member at Stanford University and a Research Staff Member at IBM’s Almaden Research Center in San Jose.
