Joe Pirzynski VTA Board Vice Chairperson
Los Gatos Town Councilmember Joe Pirzynski serves on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 3 (the West Valley cities of Campbell, Cupertino, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and the town of Los Gatos), having been appointed in 2012. He is vice chairperson of the VTA Board of Directors for 2012. Member Pirzynski also serves on the Audit Committee and the Congestion Management Program and Planning Committee, where he is that committee’s chairperson for 2012. Additionally, he serves on the Executive Evaluation Committee.
Member Pirzynski has extensive previous experience serving VTA. He previously served as a member of the Board of Directors from 2004-2005 representing City Group 3, and served as Board chairperson for 2005 and vice chairperson for 2004. He also served as an alternate Board member representing City Group 3 during 2002-2003. Member Pirzynski twice served as a member of VTA’s Policy Advisory Committee (PAC) representing Los Gatos. His most recent term was 2009-2011, where he was that committee’s chairperson for 2011 and vice chairperson for 2010, and was the PAC’s representative to VTA’s Ad Hoc Financial Recovery Committee. He first served on the PAC from 2002-2003, and served as an alternate member of that committee for 2001. He also served on the Vasona Corridor Advisory Committee Member from 2001-2005.
Member Pirzynski is a member of the Los Gatos Town Council, having been most recently re-elected in 2010. He was first elected to the Town Council in 1998, and, besides 2010, was re-elected in 2002 and 2006. He served as mayor of Los Gatos for 2000/01, 2006/07 and 2010/11.
Prior public and civic service includes on the Los Gatos Planning Commission, as the Los Gatos representative to the League of California Cities Peninsula Division and to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), as Los Gatos’ Representative to the Santa Clara County Cities Association, and as past president of the Santa Clara County Cities Association Board. His community involvement includes founder and former Commander of the Los Gatos Disaster Aid Response Team. He also served on the Board of the Los Gatos Community Foundation.
Vice Chair Pirzynski has been a Los Gatos resident since 1974. He is a psychotherapist and educator, having recently retired from teaching psychology and serving as Director of Counseling Services at Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose. He previously taught graduate counseling classes at San Jose State University and Santa Clara University. He is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice with Affiliated Therapists of Los Gatos. He holds a Masters Degree in Counseling from San Jose State University.
