| SUBJECT: |
Operator Training |
FOR INFORMATION ONLY
At the April 2006 CTA meeting staff reported that Bus Operator Training would be an agenda item over the next several meetings to provide information and receive feedback from the committee. VTA plans to review and evaluate all Bus Operator Training programs provided to new and current operators. The goal of training is to ensure operators have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to consistently provide safe and courteous service to all passengers.
Committee members have expressed particular interest in VTA Operator Training programs and whether they effectively address Americans with Disabilities (ADA) requirements, including sensitivity and awareness training. At the October 2005 CTA meeting, committee members passed a motion requesting the VTA Board of Directors develop and implement an educationally sound assessment plan to field test operators on ADA compliance.
Since January 2005 the CTA Task Force on Bus Mobility Device Securement has been working on a mobility device securement policy and implementation issues, including operator training.
VTA is requesting CTA input on training curriculum and content for customer service and all critical transit related ADA requirements. Appropriate VTA staff from training and operations will be attending CTA meetings to provide information and receive comments.
