SUBJECT: Door-to-Door and South County Service Area Surcharge Deferment Information

BACKGROUND:

At the Committee for Transit Accessibility’s May 2007 meeting, members requested that staff provide information to the committee about how Outreach customers will be informed about the deferment of the paratransit Door-to-Door surcharge and the South County Service Area surcharge. 

DISCUSSION:

Staff has prepared the following text to give to VTA and Outreach Customer Service staffs to respond to questions they may receive about the deferment of both the Door-to-Door and South County Service Area surcharges.    Staff decided to use a prepared answer to respond to customer questions rather than sending a letter to all customers because no changes to the current fares are being made.   This method of providing the information in response to customer questions will avoid raising unnecessary customer concerns.

“The additional charges for South County Outreach paratransit customers who live more than 3/4 of a mile from a bus route, and for customers who receive door-to-door service, will continue to be deferred until further notice.    Should you have any questions, please contact VTA's Accessible Services department at 408-952-4249.” 

The Paratransit Riders’ Guide will be updated to include information about the surcharge deferments until further notice.
