BOARD MEMORANDUM

RECOMMENDATION:

Recognize: Susan Bennett, River Oaks Administration; Duane Rhodes, Guadalupe Operations; and Laura Fosselman, Chaboya Maintenance, as our Employees of the Month for December 2003, and Raul Quiroz as Supervisor of the Quarter.

BACKGROUND: 

Susan Bennett is the Executive Secretary in the Development & Congestion Management Division and has served VTA for more than12 years.  Loyal, dependable and the consummate public servant, Sue has provided faithful service to the people of the Santa Clara Valley.  She has served as a role mode, mentor and counselor for employees at every level.  Being administrative support to a Division Chief includes the responsibilities often associated with the office and Sue has reflected the highest quality of service to representatives of other public and private sector agencies, community interests groups and to her fellow employees.  In addition to being recognized as employee of the month, Sue is also retiring from VTA after many years of dedicated service. Congratulations to Susan Bennett, Administration Employee of the Month for December 2003!

Duane Rhodes, Fare Inspector in Protective Services at River Oaks, has provided dedicated service to VTA for nearly 14 years.  Because he is a skilled professional, his interaction with the public always conveys a positive image for VTA.  Duanes job is to ensure each light rail passenger pays the proper fare while at the same time making them feel at ease as he firmly enforces the fare policy.  He is dedicated to his job and serves with tact, fairness, and respect. Congratulations to Duane Rhodes, Operations Employee of the Month for December 2003!  

Laura Fossselman, Service Worker at Chaboya Division, has served VTA for nearly 21 years.  She provides viable leadership on the fuel island team and possesses a unique ability to serve as an inspiration to her team members.  Laura has consistently performed her job with top efficiency and effectiveness and displays pride of ownership in her work.  She enjoys her coworkers and supervisors and contributes enthusiastically to creating an enjoyable work environment.  Congratulations to Laura Fosselman, Maintenance Employee of the Month for December 2003!

Raul Quiroz, Transit Maintenance Supervisor at Chaboya Division, has served VTA with excellence for nearly 24 years.  His leadership style has earned him a reputation for being fair to his staff and all VTA employees.   He is known to be respectful and honest and displays a true open door policy.  Raul strives to connect with everyone, and to that end, has built strong, positive working relationships with everybody.  Raul is an experienced supervisor who leads by example and has worked diligently to enhance communications between operations and maintenance work units in the development of a more productive working relationship.  Congratulations to Raul Quiroz, Supervisor of the Quarter 2003!
