Resolution for Retiring VTA Employee Harrison Smith |
RECOMMENDATION:
To adopt a resolution for retiring employee, Harrison Smith, Transit Foreperson, for 34 years of service.
BACKGROUND:
Harrison Smith, Transit Foreperson at the Cerone Maintenance Division, has provided outstanding leadership at VTA for 34 years. He began his career with City Lines in 1969 working both in the tire shop and as a service worker. In 1974 Harrison became a First Class Mechanic and held the lead position at Central Division. In 1977, he was promoted to Foreperson and worked at North Division until 1979. He found his niche at Cerone Maintenance where he has worked for the past 24 years. Harrison is admired and respected by his crew. He has also created a wonderful rapport with operators. His work ethic, dedication, leadership and personal drive have made him an exceptional employee and a valued role model to all that know him. In August 2001, Harrison was named employee of the month and subsequently selected as the 2001 Maintenance Employee of the Year. Harrison is married and has 4 adult children. Congratulations to Harrison Smith for his outstanding service to VTA.
RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SANTA CLARA VALLEY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY GIVING SPECIAL TRIBUTE, DUE HONOR, AND RECOGNITION TO
TRANSIT FOREPERSON
HARRISON SMITH
WHEREAS, Harrison Smith is retiring from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority after more than 34 years of distinguished public service; and,
WHEREAS, Harrison Smith was first employed by San Jose City Lines in 1969 where he worked in the tire shop and as a service worker, supporting maintenance program implementation; and,
WHEREAS, Harrison Smith came to the Transportation District in 1974 to become a First Class Mechanic and to hold the lead position at the Central Division, responsible for bus mechanical maintenance; and,
WHEREAS, Harrison Smith was promoted to Foreperson in 1977 and provided outstanding leadership to advance the development of a safety program within the Cerone Minor Maintenance Unit, to design and implement the conflict resolution process; and,
WHEREAS, Harrison Smith as an employee of Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority distinguished himself as an outstanding and dedicated leader as indicated by his superior supervisory standards; and,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority does hereby give special tribute, due honor, and recognition to Harrison Smith for his more than 34 years of distinguished service to the citizens of Santa Clara Valley.
