RECOMMENDATION:
Recognize: Connie Lechnar, CAMM Department, River Oaks Administration; Steve Hawkins, Light Rail Operations; James Azucena, Chaboya Maintenance as our Employees of the Month for October, and Janice Broock, Supervisor of the Quarter for October 2004, and Julia Jones, July Employee of the Month for Administration.
Connie Lechnar is the October Employee of the Month for Administration. Hired in March of 2001, Connie is a Contract Administrator II in the Contracts Administration and Materials Management (CAMM) Department of the Fiscal Resources Division at River Oaks. She is responsible for the preparation and the administration of VTA facility maintenance contracts. Connie goes beyond her assigned duties to ensure that her clients are satisfied. Recently one of her customers required assistance, with not only the contract itself, but also with obtaining the necessary contract forms. Connie thoroughly researched her customer’s needs, obtained the necessary forms and was praised for going well beyond her client’s expectations. Accordingly, Connie has gained the reputation of not only doing her job well, but also for achieving customer success. Connie is consistently cheerful and delivers first-rate service with a smile. Congratulations to Connie Lechnar, Administration Employee of the Month for October!
James Azucena, Chaboya Division Service Worker, is this month’s Maintenance honoree. James has served VTA since 1978, demonstrating his dedication to his internal customers by maintaining high performance standards, and by placing team members and team goals above his personal interests. James is acknowledged as the “spark plug” in the division for his ability to enhance the performance of his team. James is recognized for tackling each assignment with a sincere commitment to personal excellence. Always willing to “lend a helping hand,” James has been praised by his co-workers for his contributions to their success. James and the entire Chaboya Fuel Island team consistently receive praise regarding their exceptionally clean coaches. James has become a well-respected role model by setting a good example, demonstrating good character, and by providing strong team leadership. James has proven to be a genuine asset to both the Chaboya Fuel Island team and to VTA. Congratulations to James Azucena, October Employee of the Month for Maintenance!
Steve Hawkins, a Light Rail Operator in the Guadalupe Light Rail Division, is this October’s Employee of the Month for Operations. Steve has been with VTA since 1995, serving his passengers with dedication and focuses on maximizing customer satisfaction. Steve is also noted for being helpful to his fellow operators, dispatchers, and OCC staff. Steve’s colleagues enjoy working with him and note that it is a pleasure to work with him. He is acknowledged as an excellent performer who is trustworthy and reliable. Steve always has something nice to say about the people he works with and is well-respected by his peers. Congratulations to Steve Hawkins, October Employee of the Month for Operations!
Janice Broock, a Transportation Supervisor in the Guadalupe Light Rail Division, is the Supervisor of the Quarter. Janice continues to demonstrate personal and professional excellence in all aspects of her position since joining VTA in 1981. She recently implemented several changes to Transit Radio Dispatch work instructions designed to improve information to management. The changes improved the clarity and completeness of trend analyses regarding VTA’s response to service interruptions. As well as possessing strong technical skills, Janice is also recognized as being friendly and courteous. She demonstrates a team approach in the execution of her duties, and is always willing to go the “extra mile” to ensure that the projects she works on become quality tools for her team. Accordingly, Janice is a strong asset to both her work team and VTA. Congratulations to Janice Broock, Supervisor of the Quarter!
Julia Jones is the July Employee of the Month for Administration. Recently promoted to Senior Management Analyst, Julia is considered by her co-workers to be a joy to work with. Always pleasant, witty and charming, Julia has exemplified the concept of team player for the five years that she has worked for VTA. In her former position as Organizational Development and Training Specialist, she served as the Employee Advisory Committee’s facilitator for over four years. Julia gained the committee’s appreciation and admiration for her innovative ideas and consistent, unwavering support. While in the Employee Development Section, Julia effectively administered the TransLink (integrated fare structure) project training, the Accelerated Degree program, the VTA Outplacement program, the Combined Giving Campaign and numerous VTA diversity events and training opportunities. Congratulations to Julia Jones, Administration Employee of the Month for July!
