Angi Dixon

everal weeks ago, My VTA shared a most charming story of a Mountain View resident who had met her future boyfriend at a VTA bus stop.

Today we have the story of a woman who decided she wanted to work at VTA, based on a chance conversation with one of our operators.

“This was 11 years ago,” explains Angi Dixon, who works in VTA’s Customer Service Department. “I was riding the bus to my job at a local restaurant and I complimented the operator on how well she provided assistance to another rider.”

Angi and the operator struck up a conversation that continued over multiple bus rides, with the upshot of Angi eventually applying for—and landing—a job with VTA.   Today she works with customers, helping plan trips for them and providing route and schedule information.

“It’s satisfying to me to know I’m encouraging and helping people to ride public transportation,” she explained. “Personally, I ride the bus and light rail to reduce my carbon footprint and also to avoid all those really long, long traffic lights on Fair Oaks Avenue.”

Angi admits the bus/light rail combo commute is a bit longer than just driving but notes it gives her time to read the latest book in the Amelia Peabody murder mystery series or to watch a downloaded TV show on her I-phone.

“I like my job. All my co-workers are outgoing and friendly and everyone one of us is there because we like to help people,” Angi said.

Stories of a romance or a new, satisfying job just goes to show VTA buses and light rail can take you to places not highlighted on the route map.

All aboard!
