On Monday, July 5, 2004, VTA implemented major bus route and schedule changes to improve connections with Caltrain service and the new Tasman East/Capitol Light Rail Extension.

The July 2004 Service Change brochures and revised timeguides (schedules) are available onboard VTA Buses and Light Rail as well as at the VTA Downtown Customer Service Center at 2 North First Street, San Jose.

Line 17 (Gilroy Transit Center to St. Louise Hospital) The routing was modified to operate on Forest Street, Lewis Street, and Monterey Street to the Gilroy Transit Center.

Line 19 (Gilroy Transit Center to 1st Street & Santa Teresa) The routing was modified to operate on 6th Street and Monterey Street to the Gilroy Transit Center.

Line 25 (Alum Rock Transit Center to DeAnza College) Service to Meadow Lane and Easthills Drive (Meadow loop) operates in the eastbound direction only. On weekdays, service to the Meadow loop operates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during the midday. On Saturday, service to the Meadow loop operates every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Sunday, service to the Meadow loop will operate every 40 minutes from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

Line 31 (McKee Light Rail Station to Evergreen College/The Villages) This route was extended to the north, and operate between the McKee Light Rail Station and Evergreen Valley College. On weekdays, peak hour frequency was improved to every 15 minutes. Service to The Villages will operate every 60 minutes. On weekends, the service hours was extended to 10 p.m. between Eastridge Transit Center and the McKee Light Rail Station. Sunday service operates every 30 minutes between the McKee Light Rail Station and Eastridge Transit Center, and every 60 minutes between Eastridge Transit Center and The Villages.

Line 33 (Baypointe Light Rail Station to Great Mall/Main Transit Center) Saturday service ends at 8:30 p.m. Sunday service operates from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

NEW Line 45 (Berryessa Light Rail Station via Piedmont and Cropley) On weekdays, service operates every 30-45 minutes between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. On weekends, service operates every 40-45 minutes between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

NEW Line 46 (Great Mall/Main Transit Center to Washington & Escuela via Yellowstone) On weekdays, service operates from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., every 30 minutes during peak hours, and every 60 minutes during the midday and in the evening. On Saturday, service operates every 60 minutes between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. On Sunday, service operates every 60 minutes between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.  

NEW Line 47 (Great Mall/Main Transit Center to Washington & Escuela via Park Victoria) On weekdays, service operates every 30 minutes between 5:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., then every 60 minutes until 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, service operates every 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., then every 60 minutes until 8 p.m. On Sunday, service operates every 45 minutes between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.  

Line 59 (Great America to Great Mall/Main Transit Center) New midday service operates every 60 minutes between the Great Mall/Main Transit Center and 1st and Karina Streets.

Line 64 (Almaden Light Rail Station to Penitencia Creek Light Rail Station) On weekdays, service between the Alum Rock Transit Center and the Penitencia Creek Light Rail Station operates every 30 minutes between 5:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. On Saturday, service between the Alum Rock Transit Center and the Penitencia Creek Light Rail Station operates every 30 minutes between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday service along this segment operates between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Line 66 (Santa Teresa Hospital to Milpitas/Dixon Road) The routing was modified to serve the Great Mall/ Main Transit Center. 

Line 68 (Gilroy/Gavilan College to San Jose Diridon Station) The routing in Gilroy was modified to operate on Monterey Street instead of Eigleberry Street between 4th Street and the Gilroy Transit Center.

Line 74 (Eastridge Transit Center to Baypointe Light Rail Station) This route was deleted and replaced with light rail service on Capitol Avenue.

Line 77 (Eastridge Transit Center to Great Mall and Milpitas) On weekdays, 30-minute service was provided northbound in the a.m. peak hours and southbound in the p.m. peak hours between the Great Mall/Main Transit Center and Milpitas and Calaveras Boulevards.  

Line 140 (Fremont BART Station to Sunnyvale Caltrain Station) The routing was modified to serve the Great Mall/Main Transit Center. 

Line 321 (Great Mall/Main Transit Center to Lockheed Martin/Moffett Park) See Map for routing change and bus and light rail service alternatives.

Line 521 (Gilroy Transit Center to Lockheed Martin/Moffett Park) The routing in Gilroy was modified to operate on Monterey Street instead of Church Street between 1st Street and the Gilroy Transit Center. No bus stops were affected by this routing change.

New changes to the following lines: 36, 62, 70, 71, 81, 104, 180, and 300
