VTA Schedules Environmental Scoping Meeting for Santa Clara-Alum Rock Transit Project
| Release Number: | nr11-01_2007 |
| Release Date: | November 7, 2007 |
San Jose, Calif. – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is initiating the environmental process, required by the State of California, by preparing a Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Santa Clara-Alum Rock Transit Improvement Project. The Draft EIR will include an analysis of three alternatives for the Santa Clara-Alum Rock Corridor: Future No Build, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), and Single-Car Light Rail Transit (LRT). The Draft EIR will address the short and long term environmental impacts of all three project alternatives.
VTA has scheduled a public scoping meeting at San Jose City Hall to receive input on the project’s purpose and need, alternatives, the environmental and community impacts that will be evaluated and evaluation methodologies. The input received from the public will help define the environmental studies to be considered in the Draft EIR, expected to be released in spring 2008.
The public is invited to attend an Open House beginning at 6:00 p.m. to review exhibits and discuss the project with staff. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by an opportunity to enter formal comments into the public record.
