Ride VTA to 4th of July Festivities!
| Release Number: | nr06-09 |
| Release Date: | June 27, 2008 |
San Jose, Calif. -- It’s a celebration of America’s Independence Day and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) encourages everyone to free themselves from driving and consider taking public transportation come Friday, July 4, 2008. Leave your vehicle at home and experience the ease of riding light rail to downtown San Jose for fireworks at the America Festival.
“The City of San Jose is delighted to be home to one of the Bay Area’s largest celebrations of Independence Day. We encourage residents and visitors to come Downtown to celebrate the Fourth of July -- and to take public transportation to their destinations,” commented VTA Board Member and San José Mayor Chuck Reed.
Light rail passengers planning to attend holiday events throughout downtown will be able to purchase VTA’s 8-hour Light Rail Excursion Pass.
Adults: $3.50
Youths: (5-17): $3.00
Seniors: (65+)/Disabled/Medicare: $1.50
Good for eight full hours on all VTA light rail.
VTA light rail will operate Sunday/Holiday service and schedule the morning of July Fourth (Mountain View – Winchester every 30 minutes and Alum Rock - Santa Teresa every 15 minutes). Starting at noon, extra trains will operate from Winchester to Convention Center to provide 15 minute service on that segment. Many VTA bus lines will also serve the downtown area.
To accommodate increased evening ridership, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the following schedules will begin for the evening:
The Alum Rock - Santa Teresa line will start operating every 10 minutes.
The Mountain View – Winchester line will be split into two segments. One will operate between Mountain View and Baypointe, and the other will operate between Winchester and the San Fernando Station. A bus bridge will also operate between the San Fernando and Santa Clara Stations to connect Winchester passengers with the Alum Rock – Santa Teresa line.
Passengers coming from Winchester will be able to ride light rail to San Fernando Station and walk to the events or they can catch a festival shuttle to San Carlos & Delmas. Passengers coming from Mountain View will need to transfer at Baypointe to an Alum Rock – Santa Teresa train and continue downtown.
Post Event: Winchester trains will only leave from San Fernando Station, not Convention Center. Mountain View passengers should board the Alum Rock train at Convention Center and transfer to a Mountain View train at Baypointe.
The Children’s Discovery Museum Station will be closed on July 4. Convention Center Station is the main stop for the festival and fireworks.
