VTA Completes Bus Stop Improvements in East San Jose
| Release Number: | NR 10 11 07 |
| Release Date: | Nov 23, 2010 |
Improved ADA Accessibility, Benches, Lighting Among the Upgrades
San Jose, Calif. – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has completed a second phase of bus stop improvements along Story Road in East San Jose. The 19 improved bus stops between King and White Roads is served by VTA Bus Line 25, which experiences a high number of riders. Passengers traveling on this line will now benefit from eased boarding, comfort and enhanced safety.
Improvements include new benches and trash cans, solar lighting, new concrete pads for buses and/or newly expanded bus pads for passenger loading. The expanded concrete passenger loading area eases boarding for individuals using wheelchairs or other mobility assistance devices, while the concrete bus pads in the street reduce any long-term effects from heavy vehicles stopping in the same spot many times a day.
The work was completed on time and on budget, completing the project in four and half months at a total cost of $157,000 paid for by a Federal Transit Administration grant.
