Changes to VTA Bus Service Begin January 10, 2011

Release Number:   NR 10 12 09
Release Date:   Dec 28, 2010

San Jose, Calif. – Changes to Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) bus service will begin on January 10, 2011. Most VTA bus routes will experience mostly minor schedule and/or frequency changes.

Effective Saturday, January 15, Line 180 will no longer operate on weekends. The service between Fremont BART, Great Mall and downtown San Jose will be provided by a modified Line 181. On weekends, Line 181 will deviate into the Great Mall Transit Center; otherwise the routing stays the same as the weekday route via Highway 880 and Stevenson Boulevard.  As a result, weekend service will no longer be provided along Mission Boulevard in Fremont.

VTA is encouraging riders to obtain newly-updated route schedules for the new service beginning January 10.  There are three ways to obtain that information:
  • On the internet at http://www.vta.org/news/service_changes/index.html. (While there, click on the blue envelope icon to sign-up for VTA bus/light rail email updates).
  • By phone at (408) 321-2300, TTY only (408) 321-2330. From the 650 area code and South Santa Clara County toll area please call (800) 894-9908.
  • In person at various transportation hubs throughout the county including: VTA’s Downtown Customer Service Center located at 2 North First Street in San Jose from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays; or VTA Administrative Offices located at 3331 North First Street in San Jose from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
