Participants Can Sign Up for New Electronic Subscription Service
San José, Calif. – Beginning Wednesday, February 25, 2009, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) light rail and bus riders will be able to sign up for a new electronic messaging service that can automatically send a text message notifying registered users of any unexpected service changes directly to the user’s cell phone.
Anyone with web access is able to sign up for the GovDelivery service, which, in addition to the text messages, has the capacity to electronically notify participants when new information is available on VTA’s website regarding topics pre-selected by the user. Among sign-up topics are information about specific light rail and bus routes schedules, construction and planning projects, public meetings and agendas for the VTA Board of Directors meetings.
“VTA strives to provide good customer service; with GovDelivery, customers can now get up to date information at their fingertips,” said Michael Burns, VTA General Manager.
GovDelivery is a service used by many government agencies and organizations. Bay Area Rapid Transit Website Manager Timothy Moore views instant communication offered by the service as a necessity. “GovDelivery has enhanced our service and improved customer satisfaction.”
Signing up for the Gov Delivery service is as easy as visiting VTA’s website,
www.vta.org, beginning on the 25th and clicking on the “Sign Up for E-mail Updates” button.
The new service is referred to as a Digital Subscription Management (DSM) system and notifications about new information or updates are sent via e-mail, Really Simple Syndication (RSS) or by text message.
GovDelivery was developed to meet the growing need for immediate practical, reliable communication tools that could empower the public sector to provide residents with improved service and access to information.
