The 2000 Measure A Citizens Watchdog Committee Invites Public to Comment on Measure A Program

WHO: Santa Clara County residents, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), and the 2000 Measure A Citizens Watchdog Committee (CWC).
WHAT: Santa Clara County residents are invited to a public hearing to provide input to the Watchdog Committee on the 2000 Measure A Program.
“We encourage anyone interested in our public transit services to attend this hearing,” said Noel Tebo, Chair, the 2000 Measure A Citizens Watchdog Committee. “We welcome their input and comments.”

The public is encouraged to attend but for those unable, written comments will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on June 10 by email to: board.secretary@vta.org or by mail to: Office of the Board Secretary, 3331 N. First Street, Building B-1, San José, CA 95134-1927.
WHY: The public meeting offers an opportunity for CWC to hear the opinions and concerns of the community. These comments, combined with other data gathered, are used by the CWC to form its conclusion on whether 2000 Measure A tax dollars are spent in accordance with the intent of the measure.
2000 Measure A Citizens Watchdog Committee
The 2000 Measure A ballot specified that the Citizens Watchdog Committee (CWC), comprised of the private citizens serving on VTA’s Citizens Advisory Committee, must review all 2000 Measure A expenditures. The CWC must have an independent audit conducted each fiscal year, hold public hearings, and issue reports; the CWC must, at least annually, inform Santa Clara County residents as to how the funds are being spent; it must publish the results of the independent audit and the annual report in local newspapers and make them available to the public.
