VTA Gives Everbridge the Green Light for Automated Incident Communications

Release Number:   nr06-06
Release Date:   Jun 16, 2009

Cutting Edge Technology Speeds Emergency Notifications and Response

SAN JOSE and LOS ANGELES, Calif. – June 16, 2009 – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has become the first major public transportation provider in America to implement Everbridge Matrix, a state-of-the-art automated incident communications system. The system provider is Everbridge (formerly 3n Global), which is recognized as the world’s leader in incident notification systems, while VTA operates fixed route bus service along 69 routes and also operates 42.2 miles of light rail in the San Francisco Bay area of California.

“By streamlining our incident communications and targeting mission critical information to focused and targeted Operations and Executive Staff,  Everbridge Matrix will help VTA increase responsiveness to our customers and ensure industry leading emergency preparedness,” said Mike Hursh, VTA Deputy Director for Maintenance and Security.  “We selected Everbridge because of their industry leading, reliable and innovative control center operations and emergency notification applications, as well as their ability to work with and successful projects delivered to local, state and federal government agencies.”

The Everbridge Matrix helps VTA to mobilize resources during a major service disruption. It provides VTA with the ability to quickly and reliably make thousands of instantaneous and simultaneous notifications to VTA staff and Board members during incidents such as an earthquake or a county-wide evacuation. Messages can be delivered to all standard voice and text communication devices such as phone (land line, mobile and satellite), pager, fax, email, PDAs including BlackBerry, Instant Messaging (IM), and Short Message Service (SMS).

In addition to adopting Everbridge Matrix, VTA has also deployed the Everbridge Aware emergency notification system to ensure rider safety and safeguard the continuity of business operations during a crisis or disaster.

”VTA enhances the quality of life for the Santa Clara community by providing a safe, easy and efficient transportation system,” said Marc Ladin, Vice President of Global Marketing for Everbridge. “We applaud VTA for its commitment to ensuring the safety of riders and deploying new incident communication technologies like Everbridge Matrix to enhance their response capabilities.”
