Parking Expected to be Tight as 100,000 People Travel Downtow
San Jose, Calif. – With past San Jose Jazz Festivals attracting over 100,000 people to downtown San Jose, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is reminding people riding public transportation is not only environmentally beneficial, it also means not having to struggle to find a parking space.
The 20th AT&T San Jose Jazz Festival is this Friday through Sunday and is located in the downtown core area of San Jose, an area well served by VTA and also by regional train service providers Capitol Corridor, ACE and Caltrain.
“Leaving the car at home or at a VTA Park and Ride lot and riding VTA buses or light rail eliminates the need for festival goers to find parking once they get downtown,” noted Michael T. Burns, VTA General Manager. “Additionally, festival attendees riding VTA’s electrically-powered light rail vehicles or low-emission buses helps the festival limit its overall environmental impact.”
VTA is an event sponsor and is hosting the Friday night concert on the main stage located in Plaza de Cesar Chavez. (As part of the promotional agreement, VTA provided advertising space to the Jazz Festival but not money). Putting in an appearance on the main stage that evening will be VTA’s mascot Terry Firma. Firma’s message to the public is “Healthier planet, healthier you.”
To that end, information about VTA services and fares can be found on line at www.vta.org or by phoning the VTA Customer Service Center at (408) 321-2300, TTY only for the hearing impaired (408) 321-2330. Callers from the 650 area code and Southern Santa Clara County toll areas can call (800) 894-9908
In addition to VTA services, information is also available on regional train services to San Jose including: Caltrain, ACE and Capitol Corridor trains. The ticketing requirements to transfer to VTA Light Rail at the Diridon Train Station for each of those three train systems is slight different, so please call ahead for details.
