My VTA’ Lets Riders Share Useful Information with Other Riders
San Jose, Calif. – The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) today unveiled My VTA, a section on its website where riders share their stories about why they choose to ride public transportation.
“We are initiating this feature to encourage VTA riders to offer their experiences, advice and perspectives about VTA services because they can articulate the VTA story better than anyone else,” said VTA General Manager Michael T. Burns. “In today’s fast-paced world, we think successfully engaging the community, in part, involves providing the opportunity for them to post and share their opinions and observations on the internet.”
To visit the My VTA section on the VTA website, www.vta.org, click on the My VTA graphic in the upper right side of the page. By clicking on it, surfers are taken to another page where they are able to read already posted profiles.
The first story that currently pops up is that of Terry Firma, a fictional character that was created earlier this year by public transportation agencies in the Bay Area as part of an educational campaign promoting the health and environmental benefits of riding public transportation.
In the My VTA profile, Terry Firma welcomes viewers to the site and provides links to profiles of other VTA riders and a link to another page that allows riders to submit their own story. VTA plans to review the submissions and select one or two a week to post to My VTA.
Since starring in the TV commercials, Terry Firma has been spotted around town using VTA services and touting the benefits of public transportation at community events such as Bike to Work Day, a San Jose Giants game and the San Jose Jazz Festival. Also, Terry Firma is slated to star in a second round of TV commercials later this year.
VTA’s website currently receives over 600,000 visits a month, with most of the viewers visiting service-related pages. In addition to the My VTA page, the website also features an easy to use, automated trip planning service and information on all VTA light rail and bus routes, as well as information on the many congestion management agency activities undertaken by VTA.
For individual trip planning or details about VTA passes, please contact VTA’s Customer Service Center at (408) 321-2300, TTY for the hearing-impaired only, (408) 321-2330. Or log onto
