Release Number:   nr08-15
Release Date:   Aug 28, 2009

Over One Thousand Have Subscribed to GovDelivery

San José, Calif. – Since its implementation six months ago, the electronic subscription service offered through GovDelivery to those interested in Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) updates continues to garner a loyal following. So far, there are 1,297 individuals who have signed up for the service and they have received over 30,000 VTA bulletins in the last half year.

“VTA strives to provide great customer service,” said VTA Manager of Public Affairs and Customer Information Patrick Griffin. “With the large number of riders subscribing to GovDelivery, it is evident that this service is valuable to them.”

Light rail, bus riders or anyone interested in learning more about VTA can subscribe to up to 203 VTA pages. As of date, the top five subscription items that people have signed up for include updates on VTA Alerts (unplanned service impacts), the Mountain View to Winchester light rail line, the Alum Rock to Santa Teresa light rail Line, Fares and Bus & Rail Map.

VTA encourages everyone to subscribe to GovDelivery. The electronic messaging service can send an email or text message notifying registered users of unexpected service changes directly to the user’s mobile device. Anyone with web access is able to sign up for the GovDelivery service, which also has the capacity to electronically notify participants when new information is available on VTA’s website regarding topics pre-selected by the user. Among sign-up topics are information about specific light rail and bus routes schedules, construction and planning projects, public meetings and agendas for the VTA Board of Directors meetings.

GovDelivery is a service used by many government agencies and organizations. Signing up for the GovDelivery service is as easy as visiting VTA’s website, www.vta.org and clicking on any blue envelope icon to sign-up for email updates.
