Trackwork to Impact Weekend Light Rail Service
Delays for Some South San Jose and Campbell Passengers Riders Advised to Allow Extra Time to Reach Destinations
| Release Number: | nr09 11 03 |
| Release Date: | Nov 06, 2009 |

San Jose, Calif. –The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is cautioning its light rail riders that they may need to allow extra time to reach their destination this weekend due to a track replacement project in downtown San Jose.
Affected by the work are weekend light rail passengers travelling between the south San Jose and Campbell areas and the Paseo de San Antonio Station in downtown San Jose. Additionally, the Convention Center Station on San Carlos Street will be closed, with no light rail service.
Not affected by the track replacement project are light rail passengers travelling to anywhere between the Paseo de San Antonio Station and either the Mountain View or Alum Rock Stations.
VTA is providing free substitute bus service around the construction site at Almaden Boulevard and San Carlos Street and the closed Convention Center Station. That short bus trip, however, adds to the amount of time passengers will need to complete their trip.
Impacted riders are being advised to catch an earlier train to reach their destination at the regularly scheduled time. Service to and from the Santa Teresa Station in South San Jose is offered every 15 minutes for much of the weekend, while service to the Winchester Station in Campbell is offered every 30 minutes for much of the weekend.
The substitute bus service will be offered beginning late Friday night, November 6 and continue until the start of Monday morning light rail service. The “bus bridge” will offer service between the Children’s Discovery, Convention Center, Paseo de San Antonio and Santa Clara Light Rail Stations. Also, during the closure, Winchester trains will stop at Children’s Discovery Museum in order to provide passengers access to the substitute bus service.
A temporary light rail schedule for this weekend is available on VTA’s website: www.vta.org. Trip planning services are available by contacting VTA customer Service at (408) 321-2300, TTY only (408) 321-2330.
