Weekend Work at Hamilton Station to Affect Some Light Rail Service
| Release Number: | nr09-09 |
| Release Date: | Sep 17, 2009 |
Substitute Bus Service to be Offered Between Winchester and Bascom Stations
San Jose, Calif. — The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will temporarily shut down light rail service between the Winchester and Bascom Stations on the weekends of September 26-27 and October 3-4 as seismic upgrades and repairs are made to retaining walls and light rail track near the Hamilton Light Rail Station in Campbell.
Free substitute bus service will connect each of the three closed stations—Winchester, Campbell and Hamilton—with the Bascom Light Rail Station, where normal light rail service will be provided. All other light rail stations throughout the VTA system will remain open, with no other stations affected by this work.
VTA schedulers are urging riders to arrive 15 to 20 minutes early in order to reach their destinations on time during the station closures as it will take additional time for the buses to travel to the same destinations as the light rail trains. In addition to the weekend closures, crews will be working at the Hamilton Station on weekdays, from now until October 30. This work, however, is not expected to affect light rail service.
