"Healthier Planet, Healthier You" Ads Awarded for Excellence
San Jose, Calif. – The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is recognizing the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) with an Adwheel Award for VTA’s “Healthier Planet, Healthier You” campaign. VTA, who partnered with SFMTA, SamTrans and AC Transit to launch a comprehensive multi-media promotional campaign, took first place in the television advertisement or public service announcement category. This marks the 30th year that APTA will recognize public transportation agencies and APTA business members for excellence in advertising, communications, marketing and promotion.
“This award winning campaign is an excellent example of transportation agencies working together to maximize limited resources and relay the important role public transportation plays in protecting the environment ,” said VTA General Manager Michael T. Burns.
The “Healthier Planet Healthier You” campaign is a collaborative effort with regional transportation agencies to produce a professional campaign that emphasizes the benefits of public transit. To get directly connected with a public transit solution log onto www.healthierplanethealthieryou.com.
Riders who choose to take public transportation are saving the planet and money. According to a recent study, Santa Clara residents who take public transit can save $9,088 annually, or an average of $757 a month. The savings are based on the cost of the national averages for parking, car maintenance, and high gas prices. Public transit saves the U.S. more than 11 million gallons of gasoline per day. With public transit, a household can reduce carbon emissions by 10 percent when replacing one solo driver. A two-car household can reduce their carbon emissions 30 percent by replacing two cars when opting for public transportation. In addition, if the average solo commuter replaced their 20 mile round-trip with transit, it would reduce carbon emissions by 20 pounds per day or 4,800 pounds per year.
APTA is an international organization for the bus, rapid transit and commuter rail systems industry, based in Washington, DC.
