VTA Offers Free Rides on New Years Eve

San Jose, Calif. – The annual tradition of free rides continues at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) as part of its ongoing effort to promote safety during New Year’s Eve celebrations. Revelers can avoid traffic and parking and enjoy the freedom of not having to drive by taking VTA to holiday destinations. VTA will provide FREE bus and light rail service from 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2008 New Year’s Eve, through 3:59 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2009, New Year’s Day. VTA will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on New Year’s Day and a modified weekday service on Friday, January 2, 2009.
VTA will also extend service three additional hours until 3:00 a.m. on VTA’s Express Bus Line 180, which operates between the San Jose Diridon Station and the Fremont BART station. On light rail, the Alum Rock to Santa Teresa and Mountain View to Winchester Light Rail Lines will also operate longer to provide more time for a safe travel alternative.

- VTA administration offices at 3331 North First Street will be closed Thursday, January 1, 2009.
- VTA’s Downtown Customer Service Center at 2 North First Street will be open on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and closed on New Year’s Day.
- VTA Customer Service Representatives will be available from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008 and closed on New Year’s Day. The Call Center will reopen Friday, Jan 2, 2009 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Customers may contact VTA’s Customer Service Center at (408) 321-2300, TTY for the hearing impaired (408) 321-2330, to access route and schedule information with a touch-tone telephone via an interactive voice response system (IVR) and receive current VTA schedules in English and Spanish.
