Temporary Lane Closures Along North First Street Due to Utility Work
VTA will be doing some minor utility work in preparation for installation of fiber optic cable for the Communications Backbone Network (CBN) for the new BART Stations in Milpitas and Berryessa. Due to the proximity of the manholes being created for the utility work in the active VTA right of way, a work zone will require temporary one-lane closures at various locations next to the light rail from Younger Street along North First Street to Tasman Drive and Great Mall Parkway. Due to project delays the work is expected to be extended through April 17, 2017 primarily at night from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. The work will generate minor noise and traffic impacts. There will be no impact to light rail service.
For the safety of the public and utility workers, traffic control measures will be in place. Please use extra caution in the work zone and be aware of flag persons, signage, barricades and cones. Work crews will make every effort to maintain access and minimize inconvenience to motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians. If you have any questions, please contact VTA's BART Silicon Valley Extension Community Outreach Office at (408) 934-2662.
