VTA Reroutes and Closures During San Jose Grand Prix

On July 27, 28 and 29, 2007, the following bus reroutes and light rail segment/station closures will occur to accommodate VTA customers during the San Jose Grand Prix.

Bus Reroutes (Lines 23, 63, 65, 81, 85, 180 and DASH): These lines which normally operate on San Carlos Street, Park Avenue, and San Fernando Street, will be rerouted to Santa Clara Street between the San Jose Diridon Station and the downtown transit mall.

Light Rail Reroutes and Closures: Service will be closed between the Paseo de San Antonio and Children’s Discovery Museum Stations (see map).

Four distinct light rail lines will operate:

Santa Teresa – Winchester
Alum Rock – Paseo de San Antonio
Mountain View – Paseo de San Antonio
Almaden – Ohlone/Chynoweth (Friday July 27 Only)

  • Trains from Alum Rock and Mountain View will loop through the downtown San Jose transit mall and end at Paseo de San Antonio Station on First Street.
  • Trains coming from Santa Teresa will temporarily reroute to the Winchester line beyond the Children’s Discovery Museum Station.
  • Trains coming from Winchester (Campbell) will temporarily reroute onto the Santa Teresa line via Children’s Discovery Museum.

Free Light Rail Bus Bridge: Passengers traveling through the closed portion of the light rail line will be served by a bus “bridge” between the Santa Clara/Paseo de San Antonio Stations (Transit Mall) and San Fernando Station. The bus bridge will be a free transfer connecting both parts of the light rail system. On July 28 and 29 the Almaden light rail shuttle will not operate; it will also be replaced by a bus “bridge.”
