Los Altos Mayor Jeannie Bruins serves as on the VTA Board of Directors representing City Group 2 (the Northwest Cities of Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Mountain View and Palo Alto), having been appointed in 2015.
For 2016, she serves as vice chairperson of the VTA Board of Directors. She serves on the Transit Planning & Operations Committee, the Ad Hoc Committee on Envisioning Silicon Valley, the Dumbarton Rail Policy Advisory Board, and on the Governance & Audit Committee where she is vice chairperson for 2016. She previously served on VTA’s Policy Advisory Committee representing Los Altos from 2013 to 2015.
Vice Chairperson Bruins is a member of the Los Altos City Council, having been elected in 2012. She serves as Los Altos’ mayor for 2016. As a council member, she serves on the Cities Association of Santa Clara County board (alternate member) and on that organization’s Selection Committee. In addition, she serves on the Grand Boulevard Initiative Task Force and on the Stevens Creek Trail Joint Cities Forum. Furthermore, she represents Los Altos on two VTA policy advisory boards (PAB), the State Route 85 Corridor PAB (alternate member) and the El Camino Real Bus Rapid Transit PAB, where she serves as chairperson.
Prior civic and community service includes serving on the Los Altos Planning Commission for three years and with the Friends of the Stevens Creek Trail where she served as vice president. She has volunteered extensively in the local community, including mentoring students at local elementary schools and with the Community Services Agency of Mountain View, Los Altos & Los Altos Hills where she served as president and vice president,
Vice Chairperson Bruins, a California native, has lived in Los Altos since 1987. She is retired, having worked for Hewlett Packard for over 17 years in a variety of management roles spanning Customer Support, Research & Development, and Worldwide Software Delivery Engineering. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
