Map of the U.S. 101 / Blossom Hill Road Interchange Project area

Overview
In South San Jose, this project will widen and improve Blossom Hill Road at the U.S. 101 interchange. The City of San Jose is the project sponsor.

Objective
To improve traffic flow through the interchange and to accommodate anticipated traffic demand associated with the Edenvale Redevelopment Project.

Project Features
This project will include the following:

  • Widening the Blossom Hill Road overcrossing structure over U.S. 101 and constructing an additional lane in each direction
  • Adding an eastbound exit only lane to the northbound U.S. 101 loop on-ramp
  • Widening the southbound U.S. 101 off-ramp to provide a two-lane exit with an auxiliary lane
  • Landscaping in the median of Blossom Hill Road.

Maintenance of Traffic Flow
For the safety of the public and construction workers, traffic control measures (such as temporary lane closures and detours) will be used when needed. Contractors will make every effort to maintain access and minimize disruptions.

Operations
Upon completion, Caltrans will operate and maintain the improved highway interchange. The City of San Jose will operate and maintain the local street.

Capitol Cost/Project Funding
$8.1 million from the City of San Jose

Project Schedule
Construction deferred until funding is available.
