State Route (SR) 152/156 Improvement Project

Overview

This project reconfigured the State Route (SR) 152/156 intersection in southern Santa Clara County from an at-grade to a grade-separated intersection.

Project Objective

To provide operational and safety improvements at the SR 152/156 intersection by grade separating the left-turn movement from westbound SR 152 to westbound SR 156 and eliminating conflicting traffic movements.

Project Features

The improvements included:

  • Construction of a one-lane elevated flyover structure (overpass) for eastbound SR 152 traffic.
  • Construction of a ground-level eastbound SR 152 to westbound SR 156 connector ramp.
  • Additionally, the roadway between westbound SR 152 and westbound SR 156 was reconstructed, as well as the eastbound and westbound lanes of SR 152.
  • Eastbound SR 156 to westbound SR 152 traffic will exit the highway at
Casa de Fruta Parkway and then merges onto westbound SR 152.
  • Rehabilitation and restoration of landscaping within the intersection area.

Maintenance of Traffic Flow

For the safety of the public and construction workers, traffic control measures (such as temporary lane closures and detours) will be used when needed. Contractors will make every effort to maintain access and minimize disruptions.

Operations

Upon completion, Caltrans will operate and maintain the highway improvements.
