Overview

This project will construct a bicycle/pedestrian bridge over Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks, Monterey Road and Endicott Blvd, south of the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Monterey Road in San Jose.   The project will facilitate safe bicyclist/pedestrian access between residential neighborhoods and commercial developments on both sides of the UPRR tracks and Monterey Road.

Objective

The purpose of this project is to meet the demand for safe and efficient pathways for bicyclists and pedestrians across UPRR tracks near the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Monterey Road.

Project Features

  • A 315-ft long prefabricated steel bridge structure with an inside width of 12 feet crossing over UPRR tracks, Monterey Road and Endicott Blvd (just south of the intersection of Blossom Hill Road and Monterey Road)
  • A 10-ft wide ramp that complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and stairs to allow users to access Cottle Road and Endicott Blvd pedestrian paths on the west side of the UPRR corridor
  • A 10-ft wide ramp that complies with ADA requirements and stairs to allow users to access Monterey Road pedestrian paths on the east side of Monterey Road
  • New sidewalks and curb ramps connecting to existing paths
  • Fencing to deter unsafe at-grade crossing of the UPRR tracks.
