Caltrain Safety Improvements
Overview
The project will make crossings safer for pedestrians, bicycles and automobiles and will include the following safety features: modified railroad crossing gates, newly installed guardrails, fences, pedestrian and emergency swing gates, sidewalks, crossing panels and warning tactile panels to assist the visually impaired.
Objective
The project will make safety improvements at eight Caltrain crossings:

Sunnyvale Avenue and Mary Avenue, Sunnyvale

Rengstorff Avenue and Castro Street, Mountain View

Alma Street, Churchill Avenue, East Meadow Drive and Charleston Road, Palo Alto
Schedule
Construction begins: July 7, 2010
Construction ends: Summer 2011
Work at each intersection will take approximately three months to complete. Work will occur in phases, two intersections at a time beginning in Sunnyvale and moving north to Palo Alto.
