Charcot Avenue Extension Project

Project Overview
This project in San Jose, California proposes to extend Charcot Avenue to Oakland Road by constructing new roadway and a grade-separated structure over Interstate 880.
Project Objective
The primary goal for the project is to provide east-west connectivity over I-880 and relieve congestion on the existing east-west corridors in the immediate vicinity (at Brokaw and at Montague).
Project Features
The proposed improvements would provide:
- A grade separated structure across Interstate 880 that will accommodate the future widening of that freeway (one additional lane in each direction)
- A new road to extend and connect Charcot Avenue to Oakland Road (via the existing Silk Wood Lane)
- Sound and retaining walls and the widening of Silk Wood Lane as necessary to conform to the new overcrossing and roadway
- Modifications to the Charcot Avenue and O’Toole Road intersection
- Pedestrian and bicyclist access through the corridor.
Capital Cost/Project Funding
Total cost to be determined on completion of the Preliminary Approval and Environmental Document (PA&ED) phase. $200,000 from the city of San Jose and $600,000 from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has been funded for the PA&ED phase of the project.
