San Martin Parking and Roadway Improvements Project
Overview
This project increased parking capacity and improved pedestrian and parking access for the San Martin Caltrain Station by easing congestion along San Martin Avenue. VTA parking improvements, combined with the Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department roadway expansion, have been made to accommodate the needs of commuters traveling between Gilroy and San Jose in south Santa Clara County.

Project Features
The proposed improvements:
• Provided 161 new parking spaces in VTA owned property east of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks along Depot Street
• Widened San Martin Avenue, between Monterey Highway and Depot Street (including dedicated left and right turn lanes from San Martin Avenue onto Monterey Street)
• Provided improved pedestrian access between the Caltrain Station and the new parking across the Union Pacific Railway tracks
• Improved the grade differential between Monterey Highway and the UPRR tracks
• Provided an acceleration and deceleration lane along Monterey Highway
• Improved drainage in the general area between Monterey Highway and Depot Street along San Martin Avenue.
Operations
The Santa Clara County Roads and Airports Department is responsible for maintaining San Martin and Monterey Highway roadway improvements.
