"Vernacular Generation"
by Ellen Sollod
This artwork uses Light Emitting Diode technology, commonly used for signage, to create a dynamic animated artwork. Through its images and text, it provokes thoughts about the meaning of symbols, imagery and words that are commonly used. Images and text are created from current and past vernacular language, symbols and imagery. It also incorporates animated portraits of famous political leaders and other personalities. It includes American Sign Language, Morse Code and semaphores and use a five word sentence generator to create random sentences. It is programmed to make the sequencing appear random.
