Cisco Way Station Profile

Location:

East Tasman Drive at Cisco Way in San Jose

Station Features:

View through Cisco Station shelter

  • Large passenger shelters with gabled metal shelter canopies.  The shelters, designed to protect passengers from heat, rain and wind, also include an information kiosk, pay phone, ticket vending machine and seating, including both leaning rails and benches. 

  • Additional benches outside of the canopies.

  • Ample landscaping including trees and shrubs.  The edges of the planter boxes also provide additional seating.

  • Distinctively designed lighting that ensures that stations are well at nighttime.

  • Digital message boards signs that indicate the time and provide information on light rail service.

  • A unique color scheme for the station furniture and shelters selected by the City of San Jose.

  • Safety features including railing along platform edges adjacent to the street and outside of passenger boarding areas along the track, as well as a tactile warning band along the platform edge.

"Vernacular Generation"

Placeholder for Vernacular Generation artworkThis artwork uses Light Emitting Diode technology, commonly used for signage, to create a dynamic animated artwork.  Through its images and text, it provokes thoughts about the meaning of symbols, imagery and words that are commonly used.  Images and text are created from current and past vernacular language, symbols and imagery.  It also incorporates animated portraits of famous political leaders and other personalities.  It includes American Sign Language, Morse Code and semaphores and use a five word sentence generator to create random sentences.  It is programmed to make the sequencing appear random.
