Santa Clara-Alum Rock Project Update Meetings
April 12 – Arena, Santa Clara Street and 7th Street Stations
Meeting Summary
6:00 to 6:30 PM – Open house format. Meeting attendees ask questions of project staff and review displays about the project, station location and station function.
6:30 to 8:00 PM – VTA staff presented information and photosimulations for the Arena, Santa Clara Street and 7th Street Stations and encouraged attendees to provide input on how the stations could be personalized to reflect the identity of the neighborhood. Attendees suggested that the stations should reflect the history and previous uses of the neighborhoods. A strong emphasis was placed on partnering with local artists and tile manufacturers.

April 14 – 17th Street and 24th Street Stations

6:30 to 8:00 PM – VTA staff presented information and photosimulations for the 17th Street and 24th Street Stations and encouraged attendees to provide input on how the stations could be personalized to reflect the identity of the neighborhood. Many attendees suggested that the design of the stations should reference local schools, institutions and artists and match existing architecture. Questions were asked about vandalism, parking, seating, lighting, station signage, shade and tree preservation.

April 20 – King, Jackson and Alum Rock Transit Center Stations

6:30 to 8:00 PM – VTA staff presented information and photosimulations for the King, Jackson and Alum Rock Transit Center Stations and encouraged attendees to provide input on how the stations could be personalized to reflect the identity of the neighborhood. Meeting attendees suggested that the personalized stations should reflect the cultural traditions of the neighborhood and complement adjacent architecture. Specifically, attendees suggested incorporating elements of the Mexican Heritage Plaza in the King Road Station design. Attendees also suggested that the station designs honor the contributions of field workers toward the agricultural heritage of Santa Clara County and pay respect to the accomplishments of labor organizers like César Chávez.
