Capital Projects Group, Permits & Utility Coordination
The delivery of Capital Projects in Santa Clara County is a critical function of VTA. These projects are complex and diverse, including transit improvement projects, highway improvement projects, and the Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Project. The Real Estate Department (through the Capital Projects Group, VTA legal counsel, and assistance from consulting firms specializing in the appraisal and acquisition of real property and the relocation of businesses and residents) procure all property rights needed for these various capital projects. All appraisal, acquisition and relocation activities follow the Federal Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 as amended, the California Government Code and the California Code of Regulations.
Capital Projects ROW Policies & Procedures
Our team of practiced professionals follow the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Policies Act of 1970 as amended, the California Government Code and the California Code of Regulations for all appraisal, acquisition and relocation activities. A detailed summary of the ROW Certification Process is available here, or please contact the department for further information.
The VTA Permits and Utility Locating Services Group enforces the VTA Permit Policy. This includes the administration of VTA Construction Access Permits, the VTA Permit Fee Schedule and the VTA Permits Background Security Check Program. In addition, the group provides oversight inspection of VTA assets and provides Underground Service Alert (USA) locating services to identify VTA Underground Utilities consistent with government code. When construction, events or other activities take place on or near VTA light rail lines, the Department provides direction regarding Restricted Access Permits.
