Electronic Bike Lockers

Now available at select VTA Park & Ride lots!Picture of electronic locker

How does it work?

  1. Purchase Your BikeLink Smart Card  -

Your card is your cash and key to electronic lockers located at select  VTA Park & Ride lots and throughout the Bay Area.

  2. Insert Your Card

Follow the easy to use screen guide and enter the amount of time you would like to use the eLocker. The first five hours are free and each additional hour is only 5¢. You may add time in five hour increments, but will be charged only for the actual time you use the locker.

  1. Park Your Bike

Once you enter your time, the locker will open. Park your bike in the locker, close the door and remove your card. The door will relock when the card is removed.

  1. End Your Rental

Insert your card, get your bike, and only the time used is debited. Any unused time will automatically be refunded back to your card. Any time used after your expiration will be charged 12¢ per hour. You are encouraged to overestimate the time you will use the locker.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’m already renting a locker and want to use an eLocker instead?
eLockers will only be available at certain locations initially. At these sites, you will be required to turn your key in at the VTA River Oaks building and swap your $25 deposit for a $20 BikeLink card. Now you have access to any of our secure eLockers systemwide!

How much does it cost?
The first five hours are free and every hour after is 5¢. For expired time, the charge is 12¢ per hour. The maximum time you can stay at the 5¢ rate is five days or 120 hours.

Will there always be space when I need it?
We will monitor usage regularly to distribute lockers appropriately. eLockers are on a first-come, first-served basis. Bike racks are available as back-up, and there is always the option to bring your bike on VTA light rail and buses.

Can I rent more than one locker?
Yes, but you can’t use the same card for two different lockers, and an additional locker will require an additional card. Note that your card can be used at any eLocker.

What happens if I return after my meter expires?
Your bike will remain secure. For the extra time, the charge is 12¢ per hour. If you leave the meter expired for too long, your bike will be considered abandoned and may be removed. If it is removed, call 408-321-7201 to retrieve it.

What if my card runs out of money?
Add more value to your card online at www.bikelink.org or call (888) 540-0546.

What if I don’t have enough money on my card to pay for an expired meter?
We don’t want to leave you stranded. You can still use your card to get your bike but your card won’t work for a new rental until you add value to it.

What if I lose my card?
Contact BikeLink (888) 540-0546 or visit www.bikelink.org. Until you report your stolen card, you are responsible for misuse by another person. If you lose your card while your bike is stored in a locker, contact VTA for assistance at (408) 321-5930.

Can you refund the value of my lost card?
Your BikeLinkTM card is like a key and cash combined. The value is stored on the card itself, not on a network. Therefore, it is not possible to have your card deactivated or have value on it refunded if you lose it.

Who do I call for assistance?
For problems with the system or if you need on-site assistance, please call (888) 540-0546 or use the online form at www.bikelink.org. For all other general questions, contact the VTA’s Bike Locker Program at (408) 321-5930.
